Oblak praises Messi: He has scored many goals against me, too many!

The pair have endured some hotly contested battles over the years, but there is a great degree of respect between Jan Oblak and Leo Messi.

The Slovenian goalkeeper has heaped praise on the Argentine after breaking Pele's record for the most goals scored for a single club.

"He has scored many goals against me. Too many!" Oblak told Sky Sports. "But he is a great player, an amazing player, the best player. There are many times that he scores a goal and you have this feeling that you cannot understand how he has scored so easily.

"You are not even close. Sometimes it feels like he has just passed the ball into the goal, it is not even a shot."

The Atletico Madrid keeper has conceded ten of the 644 goals that Messi has scored for Barcelona, but that's not to say that Oblak has not gotten the better of the Argentine on occasions.

Just weeks ago, in the LaLiga Santander meeting between Atletico and Barcelona, Oblak kept his third clean sheet against Messi, although he remained modest about his feat.

"He is still the best player in the world," Oblak said.

Messi refuses to be beaten, however, and has scored in the last four minutes of encounters on three separate occasions.

"It is strange. Sometimes you think you are controlling [Barcelona], you are controlling him but in a second, he changes the game, he scores a goal, and Barcelona win," he said.

"Sometimes you do not see him. Maybe you are thinking it is not dangerous, and then he scores. This happened to us last season. You need to be 100 percent concentrated."
