Ten-man Real Madrid squandered the chance to extend their lead at the top of LaLiga as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Osasuna on Saturday.

Los Blancos had to play the majority of the game a player light after Jude Bellingham's 39th-minute sending-off, and could not hold onto their lead.

After a bright start to the game which saw Vinicius Junior nod wide from next to the goal post, Kylian Mbappe put Madrid ahead in the 15th minute, finishing from close range following a Federico Valverde counter-attack.

However, any positive momentum they had gained was halted before the break as Bellingham was handed his marching orders following a lengthy argument with the referee.

Osasuna tried to use their numerical advantage, with Jon Moncayola forcing Thibaut Courtois into a stunning save 10 minutes into the second half.

Just moments later, Ante Budimir levelled from the penalty spot with a tidy finish as he was fouled inside the box by Eduardo Camavinga.

Madrid attempted to push for a late winner but struggled to show their quality in the final third as they extended their winless run to three games in the league. They remain top on 51 points, two ahead of Atletico Madrid, who play later on Saturday.

Madrid had been hoping to build on their positive 3-2 win over Manchester City in the Champions League in midweek, but instead, have now failed to win three LaLiga matches in a row in a single campaign for the first time since November 2020.

In some ways, they only have themselves to blame. That was the ninth penalty they have conceded in all competitions this season, the most they have given away in a single campaign since 2018-19 (11). Camavinga has given away three of those.

Mbappe's recent hot streak continued though as he scored the opening goal of a LaLiga match for the sixth time this season, with only Robert Lewandowski (eight) doing so on more occasions.

And Budimir's goal saw him written into the history books. His strike was his 57th for Osasuna in LaLiga, equalling Sabino Andonegui's all-time record as the club's top scorer in history.
