Osasuna striker Chimy Avila out for the rest of the season with ligament injury

Chimy Avila will miss the remainder of the campaign after suffering a cruciate ligament injury to his right knee.

The Argentine striker, who had been in superb form for Osasuna, picked up the injury in Friday's 2-0 win over Levante.

The agonising moment came on 55 minutes in one of his typical high presses against the Levante backline and, despite his attempts to pick himself backup, his knee couldn't provide any support.

Avila was attracting interest from some of the league's bigger sides such as Atletico Madrid, but any such move will now have to wait until at least the summer.

The news comes as a massive blow to Osasuna in their bid to stay in LaLiga Santander, with Avila having scored nine goals in 20 league appearances this campaign.
