PSG once rejected Ferran Torres for €50M, but are now close to signing him for the same price

According to Diario Sport, PSG and Barcelona have reached an agreement for the transfer of Ferran Torres, with the fee close to €50 million.

PSG and Barcelona finally reached an agreement on Thursday local time, with a surprisingly high transfer fee. Barcelona initially demanded around €60 million, but eventually accepted PSG's final offer of close to €50 million after difficult negotiations. PSG initially wanted to pay no more than €40 million, even threatening to break off negotiations, and clearly stated that they had secured the player's future, with Ferran Torres set to leave on a free transfer in a year. Out of pride, PSG was unwilling to raise their offer to €50 million, even though they had already earned €159 million from player sales this summer.

PSG were well aware that Barcelona needed to sell players and had complete control over Ferran Torres's future, so they stood firm on their final offer. The offer was sent to Barcelona on Wednesday local time, with some additional details. The final proposal originally included variable clauses, which were eventually converted into fixed amounts, but on the condition that the total fee could not reach €50 million, and that the money would essentially be paid in one lump sum. Barcelona eventually accepted the offer because they believed it was a good deal, allowing them to save on salaries while generating income and net profit. Ferran Torres's departure will be crucial for Barcelona to complete the registration of new signings this summer.

From the moment they decided to sell Ferran Torres, Barcelona knew it would be a complex negotiation. Hansi Flick never considered Ferran Torres a strategic player. Nevertheless, Barcelona had hoped that PSG would go all out from the start and finalize the transfer as soon as possible. However, since Luis Campos became sporting director, PSG's operating methods have changed significantly. PSG's goal is to maintain a positive balance at the end of the transfer window, so they will now save as much money as possible and push hard on prices. The era of lavish spending is over, as PSG is strictly regulated under financial fair play.

In fact, before signing Ferran Torres, PSG had spent only €58.5 million this summer. PSG's next major deal could be Ajax winger Mika Godts, but they are unwilling to pay more than €60 million for him. PSG have been negotiating for more than three weeks and have already secured an agreement with the player himself, but so far they have not increased their financial offer because they believe the Dutch club will eventually relent, just like Barcelona.
