Paris prosecutor's office investigating Paraguayan senator for discriminating against Mbappe

According to RMC Sport, the Paris Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into racist remarks made by Paraguayan Senator Celeste Amarilla against Mbappe, after receiving a report from the French Football Federation.

It is reported that the National Center for Combating Online Hatred, under the Paris Prosecutor's Office, received a complaint from the French Football Federation on July 7, 2026. The complaint refers to racist remarks made by Paraguayan Senator Celeste Amarilla on July 5, 2026, concerning the FIFA World Cup round of 16 match between France and Paraguay, which France won 1-0.

The Paris Prosecutor's Office immediately launched an investigation, with aggravated circumstances including insults made due to the victim's real or perceived origin, ethnicity, nationality, race, or religion, as well as incitement to hatred or violence, also based on the aforementioned characteristics. These crimes are punishable by up to 1 year in prison and a fine of 45,000 euros.
