Gerard Pique enjoyed himself at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday night as the 32-year-old put in the perfect defensive display, and he has been one of the most impressive performers for Ernesto Valverde this season.

He was central, well-positioned, attentive, effective, convincing and quick. Nothing got past him.
As usual on a visit to the Bernabeu, Pique made gestures to the home crowd that whistled him during the opening stages of the game.
"He's very good," Marc-Andre ter Stegen said of his teammate.

Alongside Sergi Roberto on the right side of defence, Pique controlled the threat that came down Real Madrid's left in the former of Vinicius Junior and Sergio Reguilon.
It's been a while since he's scored a goal, but when he's defending and organising his teammates like he did on Saturday night, it won't matter to his coach.
