Barcelona technical secretary Ramon Planes has made clear that the club are willing to build a team of young stars players around Lionel Messi.
The Blaugrana captain is expected to meet with new coach Ronald Koeman to discuss the club's plans for next season, as speculation over Messi's future continues.
"Yesterday Koeman himself spoke about [the upcoming meeting with Messi]," said Planes.
"It's normal for them to speak.
"He is the captain of the team, the best in the world and in history.
"They are private meetings.
"We want to build a project with young [players] and Messi.
"We are clear that we want to build a team of youngsters.
"Talking about certain names now is not right.
"The club must build a winning project and we are working on that".
Some players in the current squad are expected to depart this summer, with a clear out brought on by the thrashing at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
"We must try to work internally and privately," added Planes.
"We must try to have a lot of respect for players who have given a lot to Barcelona.
"These decisions will be seen in the coming days.
"We must treat these players as they deserve [to be treated]."
Planes indicated that Pedri will be the future of the club after he was presented as a new Barcelona player on Thursday.
"I think Pedri can be very important for the club," Planes noted.
"His signing happened very fast, from the first moment we saw that he has the profile of a Barcelona player.
"He can function in many positions in the attack.
"We want to build a Barcelona with energy and quality.
"Many important European teams have asked about him, but the club's intention is to keep him here for many years."
