According to RMC, several videos circulating on social media show a fierce confrontation between Algeria and Austria at the end of their 3-3 draw in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

Marko Arnautovic was one of the key figures, both on and off the field, in this exciting match. The 37-year-old returned to the starting lineup and capitalized on goalkeeper Oussama Benbot's hesitation to open the scoring for Austria.

Arnautovic loses control

The former Inter Milan forward was substituted by Michael Gregoritsch at halftime but continued to play an active role, perhaps too enthusiastically. Several videos on social media show him arguing with Algerian substitute players and staff. One video appears to have been filmed after Riyad Mahrez scored Algeria's third goal in the 90+3rd minute, when tensions were already running high.

A few minutes later, when Sasa Kalajdzic equalized in the 90+6th minute, the tension had not subsided. Both sides continued shouting, accompanied by exaggerated gestures. This time, Arnautovic made a provocative gesture, putting a finger to his lips and waving his hands as if telling the Algerian bench to "shut up." The refereeing team intervened multiple times, and Austria coach Ralf Rangnick also attempted to calm the situation.

The temperamental striker, who previously played for Stoke City and West Ham United, joined Red Star Belgrade last summer. He is currently Austria's all-time top scorer with 49 goals and their most capped player with 136 appearances. Although he no longer always starts, he remains a key figure in the team.
