According to Mundo Deportivo, the Fourth Section of the High Court of Valencia Province has sentenced Rafa Mir to 8 years and 6 months in prison for allegedly sexually assaulting a young woman in September 2024 at a residence in Bettera Torre de Conill.
Although Rafa Mir can now appeal the verdict, this is already a final judicial decision, so he faces not only a criminal sentence but also potential sporting sanctions. According to the Spanish Football Federation's disciplinary regulations regarding "serious and public acts that affect sports dignity and decent behavior," Rafa Mir could have his license suspended for at least two years. Article 66 of the Spanish Football Federation's disciplinary regulations states that anyone who commits "serious and public acts that affect sports dignity or decency," especially if the circumstances are particularly serious or if there are repeated serious violations of the same kind, will be fined between 3,006 and 30,051 euros, and may be subject to one or more additional penalties:
- Disqualification from holding positions within the Football Federation system, or suspension or revocation of license, for a period of two to five years
The second paragraph of the same article also explicitly states that in the event of a repeat offense, license revocation can be made permanent: "Revocation of license, and permanently; such a penalty can only be applied in extremely special circumstances, for repeated exceptionally serious violations."
Therefore, once this sporting sanction comes into effect, the player will be unable to participate in Spanish domestic competitions for the next two years.
