Sergio Ramos has been remembering the importance of Real Madrid's 12th European Cup triumph, three years on from the final against Juventus.
Zinedine Zidane's side ran out 4-1 winners that night under the roof at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
"We knew that it was going to be a very difficult final against Juventus and we were thinking about winning the third Champions League [after 2014 and 2016] because it was important to enshrine the team after winning two," Ramos told UEFA.
"It was extra motivation to go for it."
Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring, slotting past Gianluigi Buffon in the first half.
"I remember it perfectly," Ramos said.
"We got the ball deep and went on the counter because, with such quick players, we knew that we could do a lot of damage.
"After a very quick burst down the wing from [Dani] Carvajal, Cristiano Ronaldo ran at the defence to attract them, came back out and Carva put it in front of him to score."
Mario Mandzukic equalised shortly afterwards with a stunning overhead kick.
"There was little we could do about his goal," Ramos said.
"It was incredible, a 'golazo'.
"He gets it off a teammate, controls it with his chest and does an extraordinary bicycle kick that Keylor Navas couldn't do anything about."
During the second half, Real Madrid scored three times to clinch the title and Ramos revealed how Zidane changed the game.
"In the first half, because of the respect between the two teams, we didn't press high as much," he said.
"That was the key to the second half - dispossessing them in their own half and scoring goals.
"It was a very good solution from the boss."
Unlike in 2014 and 2016, Ramos didn't score in the final, with Ronaldo, Casemiro and Marco Asensio getting on the scoresheet.
"Everyone wants to score in finals because they are goals that go down in history," the defender said.
"The important thing was to kill off the game.
"I didn't care whether it was Marco Asensio who scored or me, although I'd be lying if I said that I didn't want to score a goal."
