Marcus Rashford hasn't returned to pre-season training with Manchester United after being granted permission to explore a transfer, but if he does return he'll be wearing a new shirt number
Manchester United have confirmed that new signing Matheus Cunha has taken Marcus Rashford's No.10 shirt. Brazilian forward Cunha joined the Red Devils from Wolves in a £62.5million transfer deal on June 1.
The 26-year-old met up with his new team-mates for the first time on Monday, as United began pre-season training. Cunha was seen wearing the No.10 on his training gear as he starts life under Ruben Amorim.
Reports emerged last week claiming that Rashford would be losing the number which he's worn since 2018. It was also revealed how United have allowed the England international to delay his return to training alongside four team-mates.
Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia and Alejandro Garnacho have all been given additional time to explore a move away before the summer transfer window closes on September 1. Barcelona are the favourites to sign Rashford, who the Red Devils have slapped a £40m price tag on - the same amount which Aston Villa passed up on following his loan spell.
Barca would prefer a loan deal, however, as they're struggling to register players with La Liga amid their well-documented financial woes. The Spanish champions missed out on the £58m signing of Nico Williams, as they couldn't guarantee the Athletic Bilbao winger that they'd be able to register him.
Liverpool forward Luis Diaz is also said to be keen on joining Barcelona and boss Hansi Flick has described both him and Rashford as 'fantastic players'. Last month, Rashford's brother and agent, Dwaine Maynard, was spotted meeting Barca sporting director Deco for talks.
It's been suggested that the United wantaway would be willing to take a significant pay cut on his £325,000-a-week salary to join Flick's domestic treble winners. Recently, Rashford was asked by Spanish YouTube channel XBuyer whether he'd like to play alongside Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal in the future.
Which club should sign Marcus Rashford? Let us know your pick in the comments section.
"Yeah, sure," he replied. "Everybody in the world wants to play with the best. So hopefully, we'll see."
Rashford also compared himself to ex-Barca striker Thierry Henry, adding: "I see myself reflected in Henry. He's comfortable playing on the left and also in the middle. He's a free player.
"As I've developed, the number 9 position has become more comfortable, more natural. Things like playing with my back to goal are becoming easier for me. You're always in front of goal and always dangerous."

Ruben Amorim is doing what no United manager has truly done since Sir Alex — and that's holding everyone to the same standard, regardless of name, hype, or price tag. Players like Rashford, Sancho, Antony, even Garnacho? They’re all being shown the same standard. Either deliver or get out of the way. And honestly? It’s refreshing. For too long we’ve coddled underperformers because of potential, PR, or emotional attachment. Ruben doesn’t care about any of that, he’s here to build a football team with structure, discipline, and identity. No more passengers. You want to stay at Manchester United now? Earn it. Be consistent. Work hard. Put the team first. It’s that simple. Yeah, it stings when fan favorites are put on the chopping block. But this is exactly what we’ve been crying out for, leadership with courage. A manager who doesn’t flinch when it's time to make big calls. Let the media panic. Let the drama unfold. Ruben Amorim is doing the one thing we haven’t seen in over a decade: He’s saying — enough. No more excuses. No more reputations over performances. Just commitment to the badge. This is a turning point. And if we back him, we might finally get our club back. Properly. 🔥💪
hhhhhhh No coach in history has corrected any club by doing what he's doing. Who will come to a club that he know one day he will be disrespected?

I doubt anyone leaving a 15th or 16th place team feel bad about leaving. maybe feel bad about losing that weekly check but nobody is crying to be booted off a losing team hahaha our team needs a fresh start. zero creativity, zero skills, zero consistency, almost relegated. glory glory man utd. I miss the days turning the telly on to see a winning side

Infact Man fans and there board are one alike, how many of m united top starts where honored so also the fans. Rash never disappointed but the board wanted him to go so also the coach so,must you destroy his career imagine this bad coach trying to destroy a good guy. God will surely be with you Rash ,you will get a better team. Just reduce your wage so you can get better team, even villa wanted him for 40k but I ited is not ready to sll for that low yet they don't want him. Wicked board and coach.
