Marcus Rashford has started his loan spell at Barcelona brightly and contributed to another goal in the La Liga champions' 2-1 comeback win against Real Sociedad
Marcus Rashford sent Manchester United a fresh reminder of his quality as he helped Barcelona to a fifth consecutive win. Rashford, 27, continued his strong start to life in Catalunya with an assist during Barca's 2-1 win at home to Real Sociedad on Sunday.
The La Liga champions looked to be heading into half-time with a 1-0 deficit following Alvaro Odriozola's opening goal. But just one minute before the board went up for added time, Rashford whipped in an inch-perfect corner to find the head of Jules Kounde, who powered home the equaliser.
Robert Lewandowski then scored the winner in the second half, courtesy of an incredible assist from super sub Lamine Yamal, to send Barcelona top of the table. Barca's form could hardly be more different from that of United, who suffered their fourth loss in seven games on Saturday, going down 3-1 at Brentford.
Rashford's parent club are in turmoil while the England international is thriving with his new team-mates.
United head coach Ruben Amorim is under increasing pressure, having cast Rashford aside nearly a year ago; ruthlessly deciding that the Red Devils' academy graduate wasn't part of his plans at Old Trafford.
Having joined Barcelona on a season-long loan in July, Rashford has contributed to five goals in eight games. The 27-year-old scored two goals in their Champions League opener against Newcastle and now has three assists in domestic action.
That's a stark contrast to United's new forward line of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, who have just three goal involvements between them so far. It's no wonder that talk of Rashford staying with Barca permanently is already ramping up.
But the Spanish champions are in no rush to decide his long-term future, according to Sky Sports, as they've already negotiated an option to sign him for £30million at the end of this season.
After the win on Sunday, Rashford posted on Instagram: "Huge 3 points! Let's keep pushing."
Barcelona boss Hansi Flick was pleased with Rashford's display, saying: "We practice dead-ball situations a lot and it's really important to have this strength. We are very happy with how it is going."
Rashford will be hoping to continue his good form when Barca host Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday.
He's expected to keep his place in the England squad, too, with Thomas Tuchel due to announce his latest call-ups this week ahead of the October international break.

Before Amorim arrived Rashford wasn't able to do what he is doing at Barcelona. You can't compare the quality he is surrounded with at Barcelona with the donkeys that make up more than half the team at United. McTominay did the same after leaving. It's not Amorim with the problem or Ten Hag or even Ole, it is the club that has failed to do the necessary overhaul and choose to bring in a new coach, buy a few overpriced players and hope for the best. Rashford has disciplinary problems and was negatively impacting the club with his issues. He has already been warned at Barcelona which exonerated Amorim. Nobody questioned his abilities but for £350 000 a week, he was only going on reputation and an attitude which forced Amorim's hand! Let's see how he handles himself going forward!
