Rayo Vallecano on brink of being relegated from La Liga after 4-1 Levante defeat

Rayo Vallecano appear sentenced to relegation as they fell to a humbling 4-1 defeat away to Levante on Saturday afternoon in LaLiga Santander.

It was always unlikely for them to mount a comeback to survive, even after their remarkable win against Real Madrid, but those slim hopes are all but fully extinguished now.

Jose Campana put the hosts ahead with a vital opener, and Jose Luis Morales was denied from 12 yards as Alberto Garcia denied the third of four penalties he has faced this season.

The goalkeeper's work was undone before the break, though, as Levante achieved a two-goal cushion through Ruben Vezo.

Alvaro Garcia gave the boys from Vallecas some hope as he pulled one back, but Adri Embarba saw red for two yellow cards in the space of four minutes, meaning Rayo had to play the final 10 minutes a man and a goal worse off.

Jason restored the two-goal advantage just three minutes after the sending off before Enis Bardhi rounded out the scoring in the final moments.
