Real Madrid gear up for the 2025/26 season with the first preseason friendly of the summer in cooler climes. Xabi Alonso’s team travel to Austria for a meeting with WSG Tirol in Innsbruck on Tuesday, August 12.

The friendly match is Madrid’s first outing since their defeat to PSG at the Club World Cup on July 9. At the tournament, Los Blancos faced Al-Hilal (1-1), Pachuca (3-1), RB Salzburg (1-3), Juventus (1-0) and Borussia Dortmund (3-2) before their elimination in the semifinals.

Madrid regularly held a summer stage in Austria in the past and last played a preseason game there in 2021, playing out a goalless draw with AC Milan in Klagenfurt.

Real Madrid’s record against Austrian teams

They have met Austrian teams a total of 25 times in the past in various competitions with an overall balance of 15 wins, six draws and four defeats. This will be the first time that Real Madrid and WSG Tirol have faced each other. WSG Tirol finished last season, their sixth consecutive campaign in the Austrian Bundesliga, in 10th place.

And of course Innsbruck holds many happy memories for Spanish soccer fans as it was where Luis Aragonés’ Spain side were based during their triumphant Euro 2008 campaign.

The preseason friendly between WSG Tirol and Real Madrid takes place at Tivoli Stadium in Innsbruck, Austria on Tuesday August 12 2025 with kick-off scheduled for 1:00 p.m. EST / 10 a.m. PST.

Xabi Alonso’s men start the new LaLiga season a week later, at home to Osasuna on August 19.
