Real Madrid fell to a 2-1 defeat at Espanyol on Sunday in what was their first LaLiga Santander defeat of the season.
There were few positives from Los Blancos' performance at the RCDE Stadium, but it can be summarised by one word: chaotic.
Difficult to blame the Belgian goalkeeper given the defensive chaos he was forced to operate with. Could do little about Raul de Tomas' strike, and he almost reached Aleix Vidal's effort but was unable to keep it out.
Failed to close De Tomas down for the opener, as he continued his defensive struggles whilst doing little in attacking areas.
He endured a difficult match from start to finish, giving De Tomas to much space for his first goal, on an afternoon where he failed to offer Courtois enough security. His defensive positioning was poor, too.
His performance was similar to that of Eder Militao, as he was also caught out as Vidal doubled Espanyol's advantage on the hour mark.
Struggled defensively throughout the encounter, as Adri Embarba evaded his challenge before setting up De Tomas' goal.
Deployed in an advanced midfield position but looked uncomfortable throughout the first half, before being brought off at the interval. Was seen applying ice to his right leg on the bench.
He showed plenty of his usual endeavour but found it difficult to have a significant impact on proceedings down the right wing.
Was a victim of Ancelotti's poor planning, as he was brought off after an hour after Espanyol had doubled their advantage.
A disappointing performance on his return to the Real Madrid starting XI, as his lack of rhythm was evident before being replaced by Casemiro with half an hour remaining.
Enjoyed a bright first half, the highlight of which was a delightful backheel to Karim Benzema, but faded after the interval before making way for Eden Hazard.
Shone throughout the second half in a spectacular performance, and he looked the only player capable of bringing his side back into the contest, which he did with a stunning second-half strike.
Came on after the break but barely had an impact on the game.
Was brought on to bring order to Real Madrid's chaotic defensive display.
The orchestrator of Benzema's goal, as he started the move before setting up the Frenchman to halve the deficit.
Ancelotti's final substitution as he looked to the Belgian to bring about the equaliser.
Made a series of strange decisions, such as the change of system as well as changes to the starting XI, as his side failed to threaten in attack or stay solid in defence.

What Real Madrid don't get is they don't have a proper CB duo. Alaba is a versatile player but his orginal position is LB. We can't rely on him as CB. Militiao needs to work more, Nacho was sub all his career though he is a good player. Vallejo needs minutes. But above all Real Madrid need a young world class defender like De ligt.

Real Madrid have too many points so they gifted three to opponents (Remember Tebas applauded for the great management of Royal Madrid so in return they tighter La Liga's Topflightπ)

Koeman is affecting real Madrids coaching staff too, papa carlo with all his wit and prit how has he not paired up benzema and jovic for 75 plus minutes, how on earth dd papa carlo start mixing himself up with team selection or these are merely effects of surpotting and empathy on our koeman too, playing players out of positions at the end of the game too many excuses papa perez is not larpota β’οΈπππππ

A wise man once said,"The only thing Barcelona are going to celebrate this season is Real Madrid defeats"....And I can cc it clearly with the way Barca fans are behaving instead of focusing on their team.
You're off target, y not talk about the devastating partnaship between jovic and benzema yet papa carlo is a coward to play the pair for 90 mins, koeman are many β’οΈππππβ’οΈππ

A lot of people will hate to hear this but when Jovic plays with Benzema, they fit together so so well. Jovic creates so much space for Benzema & with a bit of continuity they can form a co-dependency that can solve a lot of creativity problems.
true bro ... Anceloti is worst at seeing that ....his not seeing ... playing the team out of position

Based on current form, you canβt argue against Karim Benzema being the best player in the world. 17 G/A in 10 games this season.

π Karim Benzema is only 2 goals away from becoming the fourth highest goal-scorer in Real Madrid's history.
