Real Madrid return to training without Carvajal

Real Madrid returned to training on Tuesday after last weekend's 2-0 win at home to Celta Vigo, yet Dani Carvajal was not part of the session.

Zinedine Zidane revealed in his post-match press conference last Saturday that the right-back was struggling with discomfort against Celta and had to be brought off, but the slow nature in which he made his way off the pitch saw Carvajal receive a yellow card.

This card means that he is suspended for next weekend's fixture against Osasuna, although this has been challenged by the club. There is also the risk that the 28-year-old could receive an extra game's ban if the Competition Committee believe that he forced the yellow card.

Carvajal will thus use this time to recover for what comes after the Osasuna match: the Supercopa de Espana. Zidane's side will face Athletic Club in the semi-finals at La Rosaleda on January 14, while they will also begin their Copa del Rey adventure this month too.

The other absentee from training on Tuesday was Rodrygo Goes, who is out for three months after suffering a hamstring injury.

The rest of the squad trained in the freezing cold, as Zidane focused on possession exercises and then organised some small-sided matches.
