Barcelona's win over River Plate at the Club World Cup on December 20, 2015, left Real Madrid without a single title in their possession for the first time in 1,706 days.
The Catalan club had followed up their treble with UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup wins, while the Supercopa de Espana had been claimed by Athletic Club.
That made it a tough Christmas for Real Madrid, who sacked Rafa Benitez just five days into the new year.
Since then, Los Blancos have gone from strength to strength.
Just 161 days after losing their world championship, the capital city club won another trophy by defeating neighbours Atletico Madrid in Milan in the Champions League final on May 28, 2016.
They've always had at least one title in their possession since that night, which was 943 days ago today.
By the time the 2019 Champions League final arrives, Real Madrid will have been European champions for 1,100 days - and that run could go on even longer if they win that final at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano.
With the Club World Cup title they just claimed, Real Madrid have ensured that they'll be in possession of at least one title up until the end of the year.
There is still some way to go for the current squad to match the run of 3,581 days as the holders of something that the team of the first five European Cups managed several decades ago.
Even when they stopped winning the European Cup, that team racked up the league titles and it wasn't until Atletico Madrid won the league on April 3, 1966, that they lost their grip on at least one piece of silverware.
Barcelona also have experience of holding at least one title for hundreds and hundreds of days.
They went 1,928 days with at least one trophy in their possession between May 13, 2009, and August 22, 2014.

It also mentions that Real Madrid tried to build a "team of champions" from 2000 and gave up in 2007 because a "champion team" was a better prospect. And a "team of champions" is not the same thing as a "champion team"

We are doing ok top 4 in premier league could be much worse. Real Madrid are the reigning champions league winners and arguably the best team in the world yet recently lost 3-0 to Eibar!
