Real Madrid could be in hot water after being reported for making an illegal substitution during a bizarre substitution in Saturday's 1-0 victory over Getafe.
The weekend visitors to the Santiago Bernabeu have lodged a formal complaint with Spanish football federation (RFEF)'s competition commission that could result in the result being overturned.
Madrid are occupied with a Champions League semi-final second-leg clash against Manchester City on Wednesday evening but will have on eye on developments back in Spain.
They will have a chance to respond to the charge that could tarnish their end of season run-in if upheld.
A points reversal at this stage in the campaign wouldn't hamper Madrid's ambitions to appear in Europe's premier club competition next season but would be an embarrassing moment for the club.
However, three points would pull Getafe out of the relegation zone and aid them in their bid to avoid relegation from the Spanish top-flight.
Any punishment will rest on the governing body deeming that foul play approved during Madrid's personnel change.
The incident relates to a substitution in the 84th minute that saw Marco Asensio set to be withdrawn from proceedings in the league clash.
Asensio walks over to the dugout and claps hands with 27-year-old defender Alvaro Odriozola as Madrid looked to sure up their defence and win the tie.
But, after clapping hands with his replacement, Asensio spots that Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga has limped off injured and is hobbling towards the dugout.
A brief exchange occurs with the bench and the attacker then runs back onto the pitch to keep his place alongside Odriozola who also remained as his side's fifth and final change.
Getafe are arguing that the rulebook means Asensio shouldn't have been allowed to keep his place with LaLiga laws stating 'the substitution is completed when a substitute enters the field of play; from that moment, the replaced player becomes a substituted player'.
The referee in charge of the match Juan Martínez Munuera didn't have a problem with the substitution and allowed play to continue.
