Rennes sporting director: We won't accept Madrid's €80m offer for Camavinga

Rennes sporting director Florian Maurice has made clear that he wants Eduardo Camavinga to remain at the club.

The 17-year-old midfielder burst onto the scene in the 2019/20 season and that has attracted the interest of some of Europe's biggest teams, most notably Real Madrid.

"Camavinga's departure has not been discussed," Maurice told RMC Sport.

"There has never been any real interest.

"Since my arrival [in April], it was clear to me that we would do the project with him.

"If Real Madrid offer 80 million [euros], as is said, for him? The answer is no.

"We want to continue with him so that he continues to develop at Rennes."

Maurice did recognise, however, that Camavinga may not be on the same page as the club.

"It should be noted that the player may have the desire to go and play elsewhere," he noted.

"I will listen to him, but for the moment he has a contract in place with Rennes and we will calmly see how the transfer market works."

This is not the first time that one of Rennes' leaders has come out and stated that they want Camavinga to stay.

At the end of May, club president Nicolas Holveck stated his belief that the midfielder would be better served staying at the Brittany team.

"For Eduardo Camavinga, the project is to continue progressing at Rennes," he said.

"The next season should be the one of his consecration here."
