Resigned Barca director: I quit cause there're decisions surprised me negatively

Maria Teixidor, who until recently was a director at FC Barcelona, has written an open letter to season ticket holders and club members to explain the decision behind why she resigned from her post at the club. Teixidor, who was the secretary to the board of directors as well as in charge of women's football at FC Barcelona, broke her silence on social media today.

Here is that open letter:

“Però simplement, sense cap gest / estrany, com si tot fos senzill / i pur en el camí dels dies. / Així s’aixeca el sol o ve la nit / i estimem.” ("But simply, without any gesture / strange, as if everything were simple / and pure in the way of days. / Thus the sun rises or the night comes / and we love.")

My grandfather Joan closed his poem "Die" with these verses. They have always given me peace: This return to the cycle of life, to the natural evolution of things, always reminds me that life is various stages, that everything begins and everything ends and that it is good this is the way.

I write these lines at the moment when I end my role as a director of FC Barcelona: the 12th woman since it was founded in 1899; the first to be a secretary. I will always be grateful to President Bartomeu, my friend Barto, for the trust and the proposal to work with him in the 2015 elections under the slogan "Bo per al Barça" ("Good for Barça") and with an electoral program structured in around work to achieve excellence in the sports, social and economic fields based on rigour and transparency. I really enjoyed it.

I am proud of the work carried out in compliance with the parameters set: From my time as vice president and secretary of the Foundation, rescuing from oblivion the pact with the United Nations for the Sustainable Development Goals or introducing the fight against bullying among its areas of work; even my responsibilities in Women's Soccer, which is an unstoppable reality that must continue to grow and which has already shown what it is capable of (I have an absolute passion for our soccer players, from Luis Cortés, and immense recognition for with the rigorous and successful work of Markel Zubizarreta); going through the structuring of the Club's Compliance, a task carried out side by side with the treasurer and vice president Tombas (whom I admire for his rigour, ethics and solvency); my role as first, vice-secretary of the Board, and later as secretary; strengthening the voice of women in the Club, from the presidency of the Edelmira Calvetó Group (and with all my "edelmiras" and my "edelmiro"); monitoring the files of the Control and Transparency Commission, from its Presidency; not forgetting the instructive meetings with the Senate and the wonderful meetings with the Casal del Avi, or visits to some of our clubs.

They are not things that I have done alone, it is a no-brainer. I have only been that person who has initiated projects, led and fulfilled the tasks assigned to me with dedication, conviction and a wonderful team of people: the board colleagues with whom we have shared tasks, the members of the area commissions in which I have participated and all those people who work in this Club and with whom I have shared projects, who deserve all my gratitude for the good work they do and that I know they will continue to do.

I have given a lot, I have worked a lot (and, I say this because there are always those who still doubt it) without earning anything. I have done so because I believe in the collective projects carried out by people who with judgment and passion make everything great and that have already become the common heritage of a multitude of people who recognize their worth and contribution: Barca is not in vain, and it should always be the Club of values. I have done it because I love Barça. I have done it because I believe in the project that we presented in 2015.

I close this stage, it is true, because there are certain decisions and facts that have emerged lately, over which I have neither had nor had control or capacity to act, that have surprised me negatively and with which I do not agree. I certify that the Club's control mechanisms are in place, that they do their work and will present, when appropriate, their results. I am fully confident that appropriate corrective measures will be taken.

I am leaving, especially because I have completed a stage. I know this because a few months ago the verses that lead these lines have resurfaced strongly in my memory. You have to know how to recognize the moment when projects stop belonging to us. It's as simple as that. Without any hidden meaning. As if everything was simple and pure in every day life.
