Richards: I'm not optimistic about RM; Barca & Bayern might be stronger overall

Former Manchester City player and England international Richards admitted that while he believes there are "stronger teams than Real Madrid" in this season's Champions League, he has to admit that Real Madrid have "players who decide key matches".

After Manchester City's Champions League exit, Richards was a guest on CBS Sports Golazo. When asked "Do Real Madrid have the strength to beat Bayern, Paris Saint-Germain and even their final opponents Barca or Arsenal?", he said bluntly: "If you ask me now, I would say no - just looking at the performance of these two knockout rounds. They beat Manchester City because of individual performances and Bernardo Silva's red card.”

But he immediately changed the subject, emphasizing that no one knows better than him that Real Madrid should never be declared out of the game in advance. This season, Real Madrid eliminated Guardiola's team for the fourth time in five years, which once again proves this point.

"Look at Barca, I think they can beat anyone, and Bayern too. If I were to bet, I would say no - because I think there are better teams. But Real Madrid have players who live for the crucial moment, which is what the Champions League is all about. We've seen it countless times.

“Remember two years ago? They eliminated Chelsea and Manchester City, and narrowly won the championship. Every time I rule out the possibility of Real Madrid, without exception, they always prove me wrong. But in terms of the overall team, I do think there are stronger teams than Real Madrid.”
