Rodrigo de Paul launches into foul-mouthed rant at critics after World Cup win

Rodrigo de Paul offered an emphatic riposte to his doubters after Argentina's World Cup triumph on Sunday, bluntly telling them to 'suck my d***.'

The midfielder was criticised towards the start of the tournament for his occasionally wayward passing, but grew into the tournament as his side did and was a vital cog in the knockout rounds.

He played 103 minutes in the final in an important anchoring role before being subbed off as Argentina won a tense game on penalties.

De Paul had not forgotten his critics after the win, as he was filmed on Instagram with teammate Nicolas Otamendi shouting 'we are in the history forever. Whoever doubted me, suck my d***.'

Otamendi laughed along with the Atletico Madrid midfielder as they showed off their winners medals in the changing room at the Lusail Stadium.

Argentina's win came after one of the most thrilling World Cup finals in history, as they raced into a 2-0 lead before half time through Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria.

France then bulldozed their way back into the game thanks to two Kylian Mbappe goals in as many minutes, forcing the game to extra time.

Messi added another, but Mbappe completed his hattrick to force a shoot-out, where Emiliano Martinez was once again the hero for Argentina as they won 4-2 on penalties.

The win means Messi has finally emulated his compatriot Diego Maradona and won the trophy that has always eluded him.
