Rodrigo finally scores for Valencia after 992 minutes without a goal

Valencia forward Rodrigo Moreno scored just his second goal of the season in the 1-1 draw against Eibar on Saturday night, ending a goal drought of 992 minutes in the process.

Rodrigo, whose fine form last season saw him called up to the Spain squad, scored on the first day of the season, against Atletico Madrid on 20 August, and has not celebrated since then; until yesterday, anyway.

Before the match against Eibar, the 27-year-old had gone 963 minutes without scoring in LaLiga Santander - 1,390 if the Champions League is included - but he was able to score in the 29th minute after Daniel Wass' cross missed Santi Mina at the front post and found Rodrigo, who finally put an end to his scoreless run.

Understandably, he celebrated with a lot of passion as this had been a long time coming; almost four months.

For the entire game, Rodrigo was looking to engage with all aspects of the play as he often dropped into a midfield position to further influence the match, and ultimately he was rewarded for his hard work with a goal.

Marcelino put faith in Rodrigo and Santi Mina for the entire game, leaving them on the pitch in the hope that Valencia would snatch a late goal, though admittedly his hands were tied a little due to the first half injuries to Gabriel Paulista and Francis Coquelin.
