Manchester United are preparing for an all-important summer transfer window and Ruben Amorim is happy for the club to sell off a group of players to fund new arrivals
Ruben Amorim has given Manchester United the green light to sell off six players to fund the major overhaul needed in the summer transfer window. United know the importance of the off-season and are ready to back Amorim with transfers – but those deals need to be funded.
United sit 14th in the Premier League and their season now rests on the Europa League, where they face Athletic Bilbao in the semi-finals after their miraculous comeback against Lyon. Their pulling power in the upcoming transfer window would be greatly increased by qualification for the Champions League, but sales are needed either way.
As Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been at pains to emphasise, United are in a bad state financially, having posted losses before tax of £312.9million over the past three seasons. They have a staggering net spend of €1.3bn (£1.08bn) since 2015 – more than any other club in the world – and have to shift some of their players before splashing out.
As reported by Mirror Football, Victor Osimhen is a target for a £40m transfer from Galatasaray, while they are hopeful of landing Wolves forward Matheus Cunha, who has a £62m release clause.
The need for a striker is obvious, with Rasmus Hojlund struggling and Joshua Zirkzee injured, but finding the cash is another question, with Amorim was told earlier in the season not to expect a huge amount of money to spend.
Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia are all out on loan and are the most obvious candidates to be sold. Rashford can generate £40m by joining Aston Villa permanently, Sancho is heading to Chelsea for good, Antony is wanted by Real Betis and Malacia, who is currently with PSV Eindhoven, clearly doesn’t have a future at United.
Mirror Football also understands that United would be open to selling Casemiro and Alejandro Garnacho too for the right price in order to fund the arrivals of Osimhen and Cunha.
Garnacho has been a regular for Amorim this season, but has been ineffective in the final third, returning just five goals and one assist in 32 Premier League appearances this season. The 20-year-old winger attracted interest in January from Chelsea, with United valuing him at around £50m, in part due to the fact he’s under contract until June 2028. The Argentina international recently fuelled speculation by putting his house up for sale and could be on the move this summer.
Casemiro is one of the players who was called out by Ratcliffe as typifying United’s wasteful approach in the transfer market and his exit would be less controversial this summer. The Brazilian still has a year left on his United contract, but aged 33, he lacks the physicality to meet Amorim’s demands.
He has previously attracted interest from the Saudi Pro League, but United may have to twist his arm to leave, given his recent words. “I have a year and a half left on my contract and I'd like to fulfil it here in Manchester,” he said in February.
“I'm comfortable here and so is my family. They've adapted, we speak English. I'm very grateful to the Old Trafford fans and to the club. I'm happy at club level."

why including garnacho instead of selling Evans, eriksen, shaw, lindlof, holjlund and onana to create space for other good players to and the academy products needs more game time now the likes of amass etc
Evans won't be renewed. Erikson is already on hiw way out, Shaw we aren't sure yet but he could be on his way out. Victor is also an unknown and he's looking to be out this season, Ras and Andre aren't going anywhere.
