After sealing promotion with Huesca and then securing a Europa League football with Espanyol the following season, Rubi has a new task ahead of him after taking charge of Real Betis on June 6.
Los Verdiblancos underachieved in 2018/19 as they finished 10th in LaLiga Santander, despite investing a lot of signings in both the summer and January transfer windows, but Rubi was still keen to respect the work of the former head coach, Quique Setien.
"My utmost respect for Setien, only time will value his work," Rubi told Radio MARCA.
"We are both brave coaches; we like to be daring and keep the ball.
"But no two coaches are alike."
In terms of how Rubi wants to shape the squad, he is planning on making only a handful of sales.
"I had a good squad and I am going to try to make sure that there are a few departures," he noted.
"I want a daring team."
His exit from Espanyol did not go down well with many of their supporters in Catalonia and he affirms that he wanted the deal to get sorted quickly, once Betis' offer came in.
"The offer from Betis came not long ago and neither of the two parties [Espanyol or I] were interested in dragging out the final decision," said Rubi.
