Real Madrid-bound starlet Rodrygo Goes was confined to the bench for Santos as Jorge Sampaoli's men ran out 2-1 winners away at Gremio in the opening weekend of the Brasileirao.
The decision to leave Santos for Los Blancos appears to have gone against the 18-year-old, with Rodrygo set to join up with Zinedine Zidane's side in July, and that could be a reason behind him no longer being a first-team regular for Sampaoli, something the player himself is aware of.
"Everyone wants to play but as I'm moving on, perhaps he's thinking of the team long-term," said Rodrygo.
"I do understand [Sampaoli] but, while I'm here, I'm going to be a constant headache for him."
The young forward has been left out in seven of the last 10 games for Santos in the Brasileirao, and Sampaoli looks like he will continue to prioritise players who will be on Santos' books going forward.

The kid is 19. Of course he will be benched. You think Real Madrid can afford to play youth when we just had a terrible season like this? Atleast we loan our players out for game time. It’s better to buy the players early on than let them develop and than compete with other clubs to sign them. Your just upset another youth player choose Real Madrid over Barca.
