Saudi arabia arrives in US for world cup prep, faces spain, uruguay, cape verde

May 26 – The Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) officially announced that the Saudi national team has arrived in New York to begin preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the US, Canada, and Mexico.

The Saudi national men's football team departed from Riyadh on Monday evening and subsequently arrived in New York, USA, officially commencing the first training camp of the fourth (and final) phase of its preparation plan for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The team will train in New York until May 31, during which they will play a friendly match against Ecuador on Saturday, May 30, at the Sports Avenue Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey.

Upon the delegation's arrival at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), they were greeted by Abdullah bin Mohammed Hamdan, the Saudi Consul General in New York, Abdullah Al-Fozan, the Deputy Consul General, and Yasser bin Hassan Al-Mashal, the President of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation. The SAFF President expressed gratitude and appreciation for the warm reception from the Saudi Consulate General in New York and their assistance with immigration procedures.

According to the training plan, Saudi Arabia will begin training tomorrow (Tuesday) evening at the New York City FC Training Center.

In this World Cup, Saudi Arabia is drawn into Group H with Uruguay, Spain, and Cape Verde. Beijing Time (CEST) on June 16, Saudi Arabia will play their first group stage match against Uruguay, followed by a match against Spain on June 22, and their final group stage match against Cape Verde on June 27.
