BVB sporting director and former Dortmund captain Sebastian Kehl was interviewed on Friday, and talked about Reus' decision to give up the armband.
After a commendable five-year stint as the team's captain, Reus decided to inform manager Edin Terzic and sporting director Sebastian Kehl of his choice to relinquish the armband.
Kehl:
"Marco informed us about it yesterday. After his vacation he thought about it a lot and I think that shows his greatness."
"I think that's in everyone's interest. But Marco will of course remain responsible. Whether that's as captain or not."
"And in the end we will also find the right choice for the captain for the new season. Hans-Joachim Watzke , Edin Terzic and I decide that together.”

I don’t think it’s as simple as it seems. Something isn’t right somewhere

It's a weird situation. There is no need to give up the armband, to be honest. Regardless of whether he plays the majority of the time, from the bench, obviously, someone on the field will have the armband on, and will be captain at the given time. They can also keep the armband on, even if he comes onto the field at some point. But they chose to hand it over to him, as they love and respect him. Something isn't quite right about this situation. Maybe he's leaving, maybe he's retiring, maybe he fell out with someone on the board. Who knows.
