Real Betis' board held a meeting at the Benito Villamarin on Thursday to discuss the future of head coach Quique Setien.

Further talks will take place on Friday, when the club are expected to decide whether the 60-year-old tactician will remain at the club or depart this summer.

Betis president Angel Haro, vice-chairman Jose Miguel Lopez Catalan and vice-president Lorenzo Serra Ferrer did not want to rush their decision, despite intensive meetings with some of the players.

Setien has been criticised following the team's recent underwhelming performances as the Andalusians may not secure European qualification for next season, sitting six points behind seventh-placed Athletic Club.

In 2019 they have only managed to collect 17 of the available 51 points in LaLiga Santander, accumulating five wins, two draws and 10 defeats, conceding 30 goals in total. On Wednesday night, they suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat away to struggling Levante.
