Solari watches from the distance Club América 2-1 victory over Atletico San Luis

The Argentine head coach couldn’t be with his team on the sideline because his work permit didn’t go through, so he had to watch from a suit in the stadium.

Santiago Salari didn’t receive his work permit on time, so he could not be managing the team in matchday 1 of the 2021 Guardianes tournament against Atletico San Luis. The Argentine head coach had to watch the game in one of the suits at the Azteca stadium.

The ‘Eagles’ are solid at home

Club América started the tournament with the right foot at home with a 2-1 victory against Atletico San Luis. In the 4th minute Nicolas Ibañez received a through ball and as he was entering the box, he shot with his right foot, but Guillermo Ochoa blocked the first attempt of the game from the visiting team.

The home side would react in the 26th minute Mauro Lainez, who was signed in late-December, dribbled the ball and before entering the area, rifled it with his left foot to score the first goal of the game. This was his debut with Club América and in his first start, he responded with a goal.

In the beginning of the second half Henry Martín would score the second goal of the game, but he was caught offside and Atletico San Luis would react quickly. The visiting side would equalize the game in the 78th minute thanks to Nicolas Ibañez. The striker saw the ball coming at him from a corner kick and he elevated to drill a powerful header to beat Ochoa.

América would have the last laugh, because Pedro Aquino would give a great pass inside the box to Sebastián Cordova who entered the area and as the goalkeeper was coming out, he chipped the ball to give the home side the victory and the three points. For matchday 2 it is expected that Solari receives his work permit and be with the team when they visit Juárez on 23 January.
