Alvaro Morata's brace handed Spaina 2-0 victory over Malta that will go a long way to booking the Spaniards a place at the 2020 European Championship, however Tuesday evening's fixture will be remembered more for the fact Luis Enrique's charges broke the record for possession in a match with 83.5 percent.
Ever since data began being recorded, no team has ever held more than 83.5 percent possession in a competitive match, and Spain have been left somewhat disappointed they didn't turn this control into more than two goals.
The visitors completed 874 passes of a total 949 attempted, with their previous record being set during the Julen Lopetegui era when the team held 80 percent possession in an 8-0 win.
Sergio Ramos made the most passes with 133 whilst the next highest was Rodri in midfield, who didn't even enjoy one of his better performances.
Sergi Roberto made 114 passes whilst Sergio Canales completed 102, much to the enjoyment of the travelling supporters.

Everyone is praising Spain but for me I praise Malta because with players mostly a part time being a footballer ranking at 182 against a team with all professional athletes and earning millions per year and only losing a margin of 2 goals with that amount of possessions I say well done
