The 2027 Spanish Super Cup will be played in Doha, Qatar. The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has reached an agreement with Saudi Arabia to extend their contract until at least 2030, but the 2027 edition will take place in Qatar because the first Esports Olympics and the Asian Cup will be held there during the same period, between 7 January and 6 February. As a result, Doha will host the Super Cup in 2027.
With this decision, the RFEF secures a venue for a growing competition that provides a significant financial boost for both the federation and the clubs. “In 2018 in Morocco, the Super Cup generated $1.17 million. Now we’re going to Saudi Arabia, and it generates more than $58.5 million, half of which goes to the participants. $30.4 million are directed to clubs in the national leagues, to the top tier of Spanish football,” said Rafael Louzán, president of the RFEF.
In its current format, the Spanish Super Cup generates $31.6 million USD per year in sponsorship revenue, $12.9 million from audiovisual rights, $11.7 million from services, and $3.5 million in travel and hotel allowances.
By the 2026 edition, the Spanish Super Cup will have been played in Saudi Arabia for five consecutive years. The first edition under the current agreement took place in 2020, although the COVID-19 pandemic forced the 2021 edition to be held at La Cartuja stadium in Seville.
