Spanish football fan 'faces £3,500 fine for racially abusing Marcus Rashford'

A Spanish football fan who racially abused Barcelona forward Marcus Rashford is set to be given a £3,500 fine, a report has claimed.

Rashford, who has been subjected to racial abuse throughout his career, was targeted by a Real Oviedo fan during Barcelona's 3-1 win in LaLiga last month.

During the match at the Carlos Tartiere stadium, the supporter was heard calling Rashford a vile racial slur in Spanish which was picked up by TV microphones.

The Anti-Violence Committee in Spain, an oversees group which records and determines outcomes for all instances of abuse, has recommended that a fine of €4,000 (£3,500) should be given to the fan, according to Cadena SER.

The Disciplinary Committee must now decide whether to go ahead with the punishment or take a different action.

Footage of the alleged incident was shared to social media after the game last month showing that Rashford was targeted with the abuse while taking a short corner.

Rashford has enjoyed a positive start to life at Barcelona after sealing an exit from Manchester United on loan during the summer transfer window.

The England international was placed in Ruben Amorim's five-man 'bomb squad' after returning from his short loan spell at Aston Villa last season — and told he was no longer part of the manager's plans at Old Trafford.

In 13 appearances so far for the Catalan giants, Rashford has chalked up five goals and seven assists across all competitions, discovering a new lease of life away from the Premier League.

Rashford came through the ranks at Manchester United before making his debut in 2015 and went on to make over 250 appearances for the club during his nine years there.

The forward's loan move to Barcelona reportedly includes a buy option of £27million at the end of the season, with Rashford understood to have sacrificed 15 per cent of his £315,000-a-week Man United salary to secure his dream move to the Nou Camp.
