According to Sport, Barcelona recently sent scouts to Nyon, Switzerland, to observe Brazilian prospect Eduardo Conceição of Palmeiras. The young talent has already attracted attention from several European giants.
During the international break, youth tournaments at various levels are held frequently. Teams from Brazil, Italy, France, and England, among others, participated in youth events held across Spain, and several European powerhouses also dispatched scouts to monitor young talent, with Barcelona among them.
However, the most notable event for Barcelona is the UEFA-organized youth tournament in Nyon, Switzerland. While the tournament hosts U18 matches, it also features Brazil's U17 squad, and Barcelona's primary focus is on Conceição, a player in the Brazilian team.
Conceição is considered one of Palmeiras' most promising young players and has been on the radar of several top clubs for months. In the current tournament, Brazil's overall performance has been inconsistent, which has also affected Conceição.
In their first group stage match, Brazil defeated Canada 6-0, with Conceição scoring. Brazil then lost 3-1 to Spain, followed by a 2-1 victory over Ivory Coast, and will now compete against Colombia for a consolation final spot in the tournament.
Regarding previous reports of Barcelona's interest in Conceição, the club's sporting department has acknowledged the player's potential but has not yet taken substantial steps to sign him, preferring to wait until he turns 18.
Meanwhile, Palmeiras has already secured Conceição with his first professional contract, which includes a release clause of up to 100 million euros, setting a high bar for any future European club looking to acquire him.
Conceição is still developing, and some sources suggest his recent progress has plateaued somewhat. Facing several high-level youth national teams in Nyon, Barcelona's scouts are directly observing his current form to further assess the Brazilian prospect's development.
