According to Sport, Barcelona youth forward Dani Rodríguez will join Dinamo Zagreb.
According to Croatian sources, Barcelona initially hoped to complete the transfer for €1.5 million but will ultimately receive only €600,000. Barcelona also included a buy-back clause and a 20% sell-on clause, allowing the club to benefit if the player is resold in the future.
After two seasons with Barcelona Atlètic, Dani felt it was time to progress his career. The team's failure to gain promotion to the Primera Federación, combined with limited opportunities in the first team, prompted him to leave.
Under Flick, despite the German coach's appreciation for the player's one-on-one ability, his situation remained difficult. Flick has made it clear that Yamal takes priority for playing time. This has also affected Ronnie Bardghji, who continues to wait for opportunities on the bench. Although Bardghji's future remains uncertain with a loan move possible, Dani recognizes that his first-team opportunities will be severely limited.
Opportunity in Croatia
Dinamo Zagreb is seen as an ideal destination for him to restart his career. As Croatian champions, Dinamo Zagreb has become a springboard for young players to top European leagues in recent years. Dani Olmo famously developed there before moving to Leipzig and returning to Barcelona; former Barcelona youth player Sergi Domínguez also found a starting role with the Balkan club.
Similarly, another Barcelona player left last summer in comparable circumstances, with a transfer fee of approximately €1.2 million and Barcelona retaining a 20% sell-on clause. If Dinamo Zagreb sells the defender in the future, Barcelona can benefit again.
Injury-plagued career
Dani Rodríguez's time at Barcelona has been plagued by injuries. On May 3, 2025, Flick gave him his first-team debut against Valladolid—a significant opportunity. However, his joy was short-lived. The winger suffered a severe shoulder dislocation and required surgery, causing him to miss first-team preseason training and disrupting his development.
Despite this, Flick maintained his trust in him. After recovering, he re-entered first-team consideration but was only included in the squad for a Champions League match against Slavia Prague in January, without gaining playing time.
At Barcelona Atlètic, his shoulder injury recovery was managed carefully. Giuliano Beletti oversaw his return, and he eventually became a regular starter again. However, just as he was regaining form, a quadriceps tear in February sidelined him for the final 12 games of the season, ending a particularly difficult campaign.
Now 20 years old, Dani Rodríguez hopes to showcase his talent in Croatia. Barcelona recognizes he remains one of La Masia's most promising prospects and is unwilling to completely relinquish control over his future. The club reserves the right to bring him back to Camp Nou if he performs well at Dinamo Zagreb.
