Sport: Napoli interested in Gavi, but player has no intention of leaving Barcelona

According to Italian outlet "Calciomercato.it", Napoli are keeping an eye on Barcelona midfielder Gavi. Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna has reportedly contacted the player's representatives to ask about his future plans and explore the feasibility of a transfer. The potential deal would depend on Gavi failing to regain the starting role he wants under Flick.

Napoli's plan is to sign Gavi on a loan with an option to buy, avoiding a large upfront transfer fee. However, the report points out two major obstacles: Barcelona are unwilling to let him go, and Gavi himself has no desire to leave, in either the winter or the summer transfer window.

Although his playing time has fallen short of expectations so far, Gavi remains part of Flick's plans. Flick greatly appreciates his fighting spirit, intensity on the pitch, and ability to set the team's tempo. With a packed schedule across multiple competitions, the coach considers Gavi a crucial player for maintaining squad depth and keeping the team competitive.

After two serious injuries, Gavi understands that he needs patience to gradually regain his peak form. While he is disappointed with his limited appearances, he has no intention of entertaining outside offers or seeking a move. Last summer, several Premier League clubs made approaches, all of which he rejected. Having recently extended his contract, he hopes to stay at Camp Nou long term and finish his career there.

Barcelona also view Gavi as a key member of the squad for both the present and the future, and the club will not initiate any sale negotiations. Flick also believes that as the season progresses, Gavi will gradually regain his form and earn more opportunities.

For now, Napoli can only continue to monitor the situation. Giovanni Manna can keep track of developments, but Gavi's goal is clear: to stay at Barcelona and fight for a starting spot again.
