Real Madrid TV sparked controversy following the 2026 Ballon d'Or ceremony. Real Madrid TV cut its live broadcast the moment England international Kane's 2026 Ballon d'Or award presentation appeared on screen.

Spanish media outlet Sport reported that despite a message stating "content temporarily unavailable due to audio-visual broadcast restrictions," Real Madrid TV abruptly interrupted its coverage after Bayern Munich forward Kane received the award. This has raised questions about the timing of their decision to cut the footage.

Kane was awarded the Ballon d'Or following an outstanding season in which he scored 73 goals in 65 matches, 61 of them for Bayern Munich, ultimately surpassing his rivals to claim football's most prestigious individual award.

The newspaper noted that some observers have questioned whether the award was fully deserved.

Real Madrid TV is one of the club's primary platforms for conveying its position. The television channel has recently attracted attention for publishing video clips criticizing referee decisions, which has drawn complaints from rival clubs. These clubs argue that such content puts pressure on referees before matches, though Real Madrid has not faced disciplinary action for it.
