Real Madrid have officially withdrawn from the European Super League project, bringing to an end a saga that lasted nearly five years and deeply divided European football.

Launched in April 2021 by twelve major clubs as a breakaway competition, the project quickly faced fierce opposition from fans and governing bodies. After FC Barcelona exited a few days earlier, Real Madrid stood alone before finally reaching an agreement with UEFA following intense negotiations held ahead of the 50th UEFA congress.

Reacting to the announcement, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi praised Florentino Pérez and dismissed any notion of defeat for the Real Madrid president. Speaking to Marca, the PSG and European Football Clubs Association president described Pérez as “an elegant, intelligent man, a visionary,” insisting that everyone emerges as a winner from the agreement. He emphasized that dialogue ultimately prevailed over division, allowing UEFA, Real Madrid and European clubs to move forward together in the interest of football and its fans.
