Trent Alexander-Arnold, 27, is experiencing perhaps the most bizarre season of his career, having never been selected for the England squad since joining Real Madrid.
According to Mundo Deportivo, when Trent Alexander-Arnold started his first season at Real Madrid, he knew he would have to compete with Dani Carvajal for the right-back position. However, both were plagued by injuries, and it wasn't until recent weeks that the England player truly secured a starting spot. Prior to this, Federico Valverde had frequently played in that position.
The issue is that he has solidified his starting position and his form has been steadily improving over the past month. Following his outstanding performances in the Champions League matches against Manchester City, it was widely believed that he would return to the England national team.
Reece James' injury had opened the door for him to join the national team. However, Thomas Tuchel had other plans. Alexander-Arnold has not made an appearance for England since June 2025, a situation that will continue. Since joining Real Madrid, he has yet to represent England.
Tuchel explained his decision to leave out the Real Madrid player. “It was a tough decision. TAA is a great player, incredibly talented, and has had a brilliant career. I know what he can bring to us, but I chose other players. We performed very well in September, October, and November, and I know his abilities. He has also caused me a lot of trouble when playing against my teams. The right-backs selected for this training camp must give their all to try and make it to the World Cup.”
