According to a report in AS, La Liga President Javier Tebas has responded to the press conference speech made by Real Madrid President Florentino Pérez. He denied that La Liga had paid €25 million to Relevo to criticize Florentino Pérez, and stated that the decision by Real Madrid to hold presidential elections must be respected.
Half an hour after Florentino Pérez began his press conference, it was Tebas's turn to respond. While attending an event in Santander, the La Liga President spoke about the Real Madrid President's press conference with Racing Santander President Manolo Higuera.
Tebas and the Racing Santander President attended the "Open Roundtable for Fans" event organized by the Universidad Europea del Atlántico. This event was not temporarily convened because Racing Santander looked set to be promoted to La Liga, but was originally scheduled for March 4 and later postponed due to the El Sardinero tragedy.
After being questioned by AS, Tebas responded to Florentino Pérez's remarks. Regarding Real Madrid holding presidential elections and Florentino Pérez stating that he would not resign, the La Liga President chose to remain neutral, stating: "This must be respected, every manager knows how to handle their own club."
However, Tebas's response was more direct regarding the Real Madrid President's accusations against him. Florentino Pérez had previously stated that La Liga had paid €25 million to Relevo to criticize him personally. Tebas firmly denied this.
Tebas stated: "This is simply not true. Sometimes he says one number, sometimes he changes to another number, they even sued us to the CSD. It's completely and utterly false. They just live off victim narratives and lies."
"Given Florentino Pérez's reputation in the business world, and his contributions to the history of Real Madrid, as a Real Madrid fan – a dormant Real Madrid fan at the moment – I really feel sorry for Real Madrid. You can't keep going on like this with lies."
