As the new year begins, new aspirations will be on mind of Lionel Messi who is set to reach or surpass more personal landmarks in the next 12 months.
Another successful year for the 31-year-old could see him become the ultimate one-club man while scoring accolades will also be on the agenda.
Spanish news outlet Marca have outlined the six incredible landmarks the Argentine could reach in the next year should he avoid any serious injury and is able to maintain his incredibly high standards.
Gunning for Ryan Giggs' title haul at one club
Messi is just three trophies away from matching Ryan Giggs' impressive haul of 36 titles for the same club.
With Barcelona are currently leading Atletico Madrid at the top of the Spanish league table by three points and are still in contention to win the European and domestic cup competitions, it's very possible that the Argentine forward could reach or surpass the great Welshman by the end of the year.
Most appearances for Barcelona
If Messi stays injury free for another calendar year, he is sure to become Barcelona's second highest appearance maker, with the forward currently sitting on 657 games in third.
He is only 18 matches behind Andres Iniesta and it looks like he will surpass the midfielder's total in the coming months.
However, it may take another season or two for Messi to catch up to Xavi, who has played a huge 767 games for the Nou Camp outfit.
Looking to score that sixth Golden Boot
Last month, Messi posed alongside his five European Golden Boot awards at a ceremony in Barcelona.
The five identical boots sat on a glass shelf while huge letters that spelled out his name supported from below.
This season, he will be aiming to make it six Golden Boots and his third in a row, something that no other player has achieved yet.
Matching Telmo Zarra's Pichichi prize haul
The Pichichi award is the prize awarded by Marca to La Liga's top goalscorer, an accolade Messi has won six times in his career.
Should he maintain his incredibly high standards and with the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo, the Argentina international should be able to claim the award for a seventh time, matching the legendary Spanish striker Telmo Zarra.
Messi is also on 397 league goals, three away from smashing the 400 milestone.
Closing in on Iker Casillas most La Liga wins
Before moving to Porto in 2015, Iker Casillas cemented himself as an all-time great in La Liga.
The legendary goalkeeper holds the record for most wins in the Spanish league having won 334 games for Real Madrid.
Messi is only 11 more wins from matching Casillas' impressive record β a landmark he could reach and then surpass before the end of May.
One away from 50 career hat-tricks
As mentioned previously, Messi is just three goals away from smashing the 400 goal mark in La Liga.
It would only be fitting if the Argentine was to reach it by netting a hat-trick to achieve the milestone and in turn notching his 50th career treble.
Fans have been able to witness the Barcelona ace score three times in one game 49 times before and its surely just a matter of time before he does it again.

People Like Pele Keeps Comparing themselves to Messi with Goals only. Pele says Messi has just only One Leg but he Pele can Score with his Head, Left and Right Foots. Talking about World Cup Pele isn't the Only Player to have Won 3or4 World Cups, his Team Mates too have done that and it doesn't mean they're Greater than Messi because they Won World Cups, so World Cup isn't an Excuse. I even Rate Cristiano Ronaldo Over Pele because Ronaldo has Assits more than Pele and Football is more difficult now than then especially when there is Offside. Some Compare Messi and Ronaldo with Goals, Ronaldo Scores with Right and Left Foots and even is Head. But nobody Talks about Assists, Messi has the Most Assist in the World for the Last 10years, Surpassing great Midfielders like Ozil and Fabregas. With That One Small Leg, Messi has Scored many goals and Sure he has More Assists than Both Pele and Ronaldo Combined. The Problem is from FIFA, if awards are being given for Most Assists in a Year, then I'm Sure Messi would have claimed the Award for more than Five Times just like the Golden Boot. So with these few Points of Mine, Messi is the Greatest Player Of All Time (G.O.AT) simply because his the Best in; Goals Assists Dribbles Play Making For more than Ten Years.

Talking points 1 Xavi and iniesta have already left Barca , and Messi is the captain he has featured in almost every game of last year and will soon have the most appearances for Barcelona. 2 Messi is a proflic and incredible goal scorer, he just keeps scoring, you can't stop him, he is just gifted, I am positive Messi can win his 6th golden shoe. 3 Barca has been dominating la liga for years now and if they continue with Messi involved Messi can beat casillas from most la liga wins. 4 Messi job is to win and win trophies for the team, he is just there trophies ahead of matching Giggs impressive record of 36, if Messi can win treble the season there will be chances beating Giggs. 5 Pichici is always a prize given to la liga goal scorer, Messi has won it 6 times, and he is 397 league goals from smashing 400, I pray you score 3 goals in your next match. And the rest is history π #G.O.A.T
