Bayern Munich's 8-2 triumph against Barcelona on Friday night was reminiscent of another historic win that Thomas Muller was also a part of six years ago: Germany's 7-1 rout against Brazil at the 2014 World Cup.
Muller scored on both occasions, and peculiarly the two games saw his team clearly ahead after just half an hour: 5-0 to Germany after 29 minutes and 4-1 for Bayern after 30 minutes.
"In the win in Brazil we didn't have the same amount of control, but let's not speak about that, lets speak about tonight, the result and the way in which we played was special," Muller said in his post-match interview.
Muller admitted that he had preferred the win against Barcelona to the World Cup triumph against Brazil six years ago.
"Yes, we were good, but tonight the way we dominated the game was brutal, we barely gave them any space, we did what we wanted and that can rarely be said in a Champions League match," he added.
"The best thing was seeing the substitutes come on with the same attitude and the same joy.
"The most important thing is to carry out your game plan on the pitch with everyone giving their all."
Bayern Munich will now face the winners of Saturday night's game between Lyon and Manchester City in the semi-finals of the Champions League on August 19.
