Can you imagine a soccer summer like those of years past, with Spain’s historic preseason tournaments back in the spotlight? That scenario no longer feels far-fetched.
In some cases, it is driven by proposals received by clubs such as Real Madrid; in others, by the difficulty of finding available dates and venues for lucrative international tours amid an increasingly congested calendar.
At Valdebebas, officials are seriously considering reshaping recent summer plans, starting with a proposal to stage the 60th edition of the Teresa Herrera Trophy alongside Deportivo. It is the only summer tournament in Spain to have been held uninterrupted since its inaugural edition.
Real Madrid executives are said to view the proposal favorably, and it would not be surprising if the team managed by Álvaro Arbeloa returns to the Galician city 13 years later, in August 2026. The club has won the Teresa Herrera nine times, most recently in 2013.
Deportivo and the City Council of A Coruña want to give special shine to such a landmark edition, and that is why they have identified Real Madrid as the ideal opponent for the August fixture.
This could shape up to be one of the most unusual summers for Europe’s elite clubs in recent memory. The World Cup final will not be played until July 19, and just 23 days later the UEFA Super Cup will kick off the 2026-27 season in Salzburg with the first title on the line. One immediate consequence is that the high-profile overseas tours that have defined recent summers for top European teams are likely to take a one-year hiatus.
In recent years, the primary market has been the United States, but the country is now saturated after hosting the 2025 Club World Cup and with the men’s World Cup arriving next summer. As a result, clubs that have already begun mapping out their crucial preseason preparations are looking more toward Europe rather than North America or Asia, regions that had become staples of the soccer summer in previous years.

Wtf is this Teresa Herrera Trophy?? sounds like 2nd version of Copa del ray which seems more like Barcelona trophy and they should invite them... Real Madrid should focus more on league and UCL
