The curse that haunts James Rodriguez this season at Real Madrid

James Rodriguez was in Real Madrid's starting line-up in all their three defeats so far in the 2019/20 campaign.

With him in the starting XI, Los Blancos lost 3-0 to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, 1-0 against Real Mallorca in LaLiga Santander and 4-3 at the hands of Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey.

The Colombian has struggled with fitness this season and has started just eight games across all competitions.

In his first start against the French side, Real Madrid registered one of their worst performances.

James was one of the few players who stood out in the game, before Zinedine Zidane replaced him with Luka Jovic with 20 minutes to go.

In the second game he started, on October 19 in Mallorca, the Colombia international played 90 minutes but Los Blancos failed to impress.

After the match, Zidane was at the receiving end of criticism, along with James who put together a poor display.

He returned to the starting line-up for Madrid's Copa del Rey victories against Unionistas and Real Zaragoza and the French coach gave him the nod against Real Sociedad on Thursday.

James didn't grab the opportunity and after producing an indifferent showing, he was replaced by Luka Modric at half time.
