The most injury-prone Real Madrid player not named Eden Hazard

Real Madrid and injuries always go hand in hand, and it gets very annoying at one point. Well, it’s always annoying, who am I kidding?

Eden Hazard’s time at Real Madrid has been disastrous and he’s willing to do whatever it takes to get good playing time at Real from this season, and now that he has had his plate removed, chances are he’ll be considerably better than in previous seasons. I am not putting money on it, though.

It’s good to see Eden Hazard be this motivated to play well, and it remains to be seen what comes of it. But this article is not about him.

It’s about this one dude who was getting flamed last season because of his injury record and poor performances one after the other, but he did prove his worth when it mattered most.

Dani Carvajal had a weird 2021-22 season. He never had good luck with injuries – playing only 24 league games – but in the end, when it mattered most, he improved drastically and made sure he gave in great performances vs Manchester City and Liverpool.

But, overall, the season wasn’t all that great for him, but I was hoping for Carvajal to build on that this season, and hopefully have a relatively injury-free season.

Well, I was as wrong as one could be. According to multiple reports, he is out for the game against Barcelona, as he becomes Real Madrid’s first casualty of the season. Shocker.

One minute I am thinking of how big of a necessity it is for Real Madrid to get a replacement for Dani Carvajal as soon as possible, and, then, after the final, I am like, OK, maybe the need isn’t that significant.

It is!

In spite of his good performances, Carvajal is still a very injury-prone player, and Real Madrid need to do something about that.

I am not saying Real Madrid should sell Carvajal and buy a replacement. I think they do need a young player that could become a starter for the club in the future. Well, they have Vinicius Tobias for that, but it’s too soon to tell with him.

The point is, Real Madrid are planning for the future, sure, but who takes Carvajal’s spot is unknown even in the present. They need a player that is good enough to be his back-up, as well as talented enough to take his spot from him down the line. The club was hoping for it to be Alvaro Odriozola, but that’s not happening. Lucas Vazquez is not a natural right-back, and he’s not even young.
