Bayern is approaching it’s 120th anniversary at the end of this month and are going to be releasing a special edition jersey for the momentous milestone.
The club was officially founded on February 27th, 1900 by a group of 11 players that were not allowed to join the German Football Association. To mark the occasion, Adidas has worked with Bayern to design a kit that pays homage to the club’s founding and rich history.
The 27th falls on a Thursday, so Bayern plan on wearing their kits during their Bavarian derby match-up against Augsburg on March 8th, which seems to be a fitting occasion to do so. The kit itself, however, is scheduled to be officially unveiled and available for purchase on the club’s web site prior to the Augsburg match.
This top is about as old school as old school gets with a modernized twist. The white and dark red color scheme pays direct homage to some of the earliest Bayern kits that existed that had the large necks that contained strings on the front of the collar.
Upon closer inspection, too, you’ll notice the monochromatic team badge is an older version that was used in the early 1920s, when Bayern had become one of the largest clubs in Germany. It’s presumed that like the kits of the early 1900’s, the socks and shorts that will accompany this top will be the same tone of dark red as the collar and sleeves.
