Toni Kroos says Gareth Bale's situation at Real Madrid is 'unsatisfying' for everyone at the club

Toni Kroos has said that Gareth Bale was 'mad' at Real Madrid for blocking a transfer away from the club last summer.

The 31-year-old Welshman was on the brink of leaving the newly crowned LaLiga champions for Jiangsu Suning in China, before the club's board blocked his switch to the Far East.

Real dramatically pulled the plug after insisting a significant transfer fee should be paid for a player Zinedine Zidane publicly said he wanted out last season.

Bale has once again been on the periphery of the Real squad this season, as highlighted during their recent LaLiga title celebrations, and then being completely left out of the squad by Zidane to face Leganes on the final day of the season.

As reported by Goal, the German ace said: 'There's no getting around that the situation is unsatisfying for everyone.

'I believe that he (Bale) wanted to leave last summer in principle and that the club signaled a yes at first and then not again.

'I don't know if he's still mad about that. It's a difficult subject.'

Zidane requested the sale of Bale and James Rodriguez when he came back to the club last year, though then later said he remained central to his plans after he stayed at the club.

Bale has made just 20 appearances across all competitions this season and Zidane remains committed to the club moving Bale on in the summer.

But Bale has two years left on his lucrative contract in the Spanish capital and no intention of leaving the team he has scored 105 goals in 201 appearances for, including goals in four finals.

His agent Jonathan Barnett recently told BBC Sport that Gareth is fine however at the Santiago Bernabeu and still has two years left on his contract.

Barnett said: 'He likes living in Madrid and he is going nowhere. He is still as good as anyone else in the team. It's up to Zinedine Zidane.

'Of course there's been interest but there's hardly a club in the world which can afford him.

'It's a great loss that he's not in the Real Madrid team at the moment but he will not leave.

'Gareth is not looking to outlast Zinedine Zidane. Mr Zidane has been very successful. there's no hatred. Mr Zidane just does not want to play him. Gareth trains every day and he trains well.'

Bale has been criticised by the Spanish Press over the last season, in particular after the side clinched the LaLiga title after beating Villarreal where he appeared to be in no mood to get involved with the celebrations.

Footage posted on the club's Twitter page showed the entire squad gathering around the trophy, with Bale hovering at the back, to the left-hand side of the silverware.

Zidane was later picked up by his players and thrown into the Madrid sky as part of the celebrations.

However, images showed the Welshman stood slightly away from the ruck of players, arms folded as he decided against joining in.

Bale was also accused of play-acting on the Real bench when making a binoculars gesture to cameras during his side's victory over Granada.

That reaction came after he was lambasted by the press in Spain for pretending to fall asleep on the sidelines during their clash with Alaves just days earlier.
