Tottenham's new stadium has faced delays and complications for the past year, but it finally seems as though it will be opening in March.
According to The Sun, Tottenham are aiming to have their first game in their new stadium against London rivals Crystal Palace on March 16.
However, if Spurs continue to progress in the FA Cup after their 7-0 thrashing of Tranmere, the first game could be pushed back to April because of fixture clash.
There will be a meeting on Sunday with contractors Mace to discuss the progress of the project.
One report says an optimistic target for the opening of the stadium is as early as February, however a March opening seems more likely after all of the delays the stadium has seen so far.
Both Spurs vs Newcastle and their match against Leicester in February are due to be televised, which led to more rumours about an earlier opening. With those dates looming through, the project, which has already costed upwards of £850million, would face a race against time.
Tottenham will also play arch rivals Arsenal in March, however police will reportedly oppose plans to open the stadium with that fixture. They'd also oppose a midweek opening of the stadium with Spurs' Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund in February.
So the Crystal Palace match may be the next best option. Beyond that, the home game against Brighton on April 6 would be next on the agenda.
Recent reports have said Tottenham are in talks with NFL team the Oakland Raiders to share the new stadium for the Raiders' home games next season.
The Raiders will be without a home ahead of their move to Las Vegas, and Spurs' new stadium has a fully functional NFL pitch beneath the retractable grass football pitch.

The opening take too long delay. It will be March 2019 or March 2020???🤔

It's not as if Spur's mgt don't want to open the stadium. They're paying to use wembley and the construction at the same time , which doesn't make financial sense. Like in all things construction and renovation, especially a project of such magnitude, delays are almost inevitable. Leave such negative comments out, it won't make any difference to the outcome nor the decision as to when the stadium will open.

March????? What???? I thought it was supposed to be in February for the Champions League?
Well, if we're talking in terms of originality, the opening date was supposed to be at the start of the season. I've nothing against Spurs, but how they have been allowed to go along with constantly putting the date back as far as MARCH now without any repercussions is astonishing.

Turned from a laughing stock into a complete and utter shambles now...this was meant to opened in September and now March? The FA should seriously be looking at some sort of penalty for this or just not allow them to play there until next season!

So in March there will be ,what five or six more home fixtures and what if a team is desperate to stay up and doesn't want to play at the new stadium and just cites the rules ,ie you must play all your home fixtures in the same venue?

Until they announce 2 test events nothing is happening. This has become a complete farce though, the FA should just come out and say they have to complete the season at Wembley now. As Warnock said it could give some teams an unfair advantage.

It would not surprise me if the first game played at our new stadium will be a NFL game. I feel inspired as the words could or maybe are used in one sentence which. Means it could maybe any time soon. Sorry the chairman looks stupid enough as it is just keep quiet until you k ow.
