Tenerife have committed to financially supporting the one-year-old baby daughter of Jesus de Miguel following the 30-year-old's tragic death this week.
De Miguel, 30, lost his life following a horror collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono in the latter stages of a second division game on the Spanish island.
The striker's girlfriend, Maria Fernandez, and their daughter, Carla, witnessed the incident from the stands. A post-mortem found De Miguel died from 'accidental chest trauma'. It is described in the preliminary report as a 'cause consistent with the player's death'.
The footballing world came together in Tenerife on Thursday for the 30-year-old's funeral, with De Miguel's team-mates, Spain national team coach Luis de la Fuente and Real Madrid president Florentino Perez offering support to his devastated family – who said his passing has left an 'impossible void to fill'.
And now Tenerife have confirmed they will support De Miguel's family and Carla following their loss.
Club CEO Antonio Manuel Porro Granados told The Athletic: 'Our plan is to stand by the girl and make sure the entire Tenerife family supports her. We want to be there for her at least until she reaches adulthood.
'This is a commitment we have made at the initiative of our majority shareholder, Rayco Garcia, and one that we all fully support. It is a commitment that Tenerife, as a club, is making to the family and to their daughter, Carla.
'We will provide the maximum possible support in every respect, beyond what we are legally obliged to provide. We are also exploring other ways of increasing the financial support, so that, at least in material terms, the circumstances do not affect their lives quite so much — although, of course, it is impossible for them not to have an impact.'
Tenerife's commitment follows the development that a fundraiser for the family has passed £125,000 in donations. Spanish footballers Alvaro Morata and Alex Baena are among those who have pledged to the crowdfunding campaign.
De Miguel's family are also reportedly set to receive around £300,000 in base compensation following his death.
Goalkeeper Owono has shut down his Instagram account and retreated from public view amid the significant backlash he has received – which saw him subjected to chants of 'murderer' by the Tenerife fans as he left the pitch.
On Wednesday, he issued a statement describing his 'enormous pain' following the tragic on-field collision.
Owono said: 'These are being the most difficult days of my life. I am struggling to find the words and find it very difficult to assimilate anything that has happened.
'I feel an enormous pain for the loss of Jesús. I think of him, his family, and everyone who loved him. I know there will be many issues to address; I will face whatever comes with the utmost respect.
'But right now, honestly, I cannot think of anything else except Jesús and the pain we are experiencing. Rest in peace, Jesús.'
Police investigating De Miguel's death are probing the emergency medical response as well as the possibility rival goalie Jesus Owono's horror tackle could be involuntary manslaughter.
It emerged on Tuesday that homicide squad officers based in the Tenerife capital Santa Cruz had launched a probe as court officials explained any death 'not resulting from natural causes' automatically triggers a judicial investigation.
Legal experts have said they don't expect the ongoing investigation to lead to criminal charges against Andorra FC goalkeeper Owono because the clash occurred during open play, although he is expected to be hit with a lengthy ban.

So sad ,it has happened, footballers mostly avoid such clash with goalkeepers but Jesus did not see him on time,a goalkeeper so far out from his area wil come hard and fast, its normal, especially with fear that they may not get to the ball first in their mind as they rush out,so to scare the striker to avoid them is part of whats on their mind so sad for everybody .,may his soul find rest,Amen.

The best thing Owono can do is to retire from football to safeguard his family and himself and to honour De miguel. He never might have intended to kill but our understanding at time can be so difficult on that. MHRIP.
