Barça had made a formal request to gain time and be able to play the entire Champions League at the Camp Nou.
As explained in "Tot costa" on Catalunya Ràdio, UEFA has not responded - nor is it expected to respond - to the request that Barça made a few weeks ago to be able to start the Champions League as a visitor, extend the European premiere at home by two weeks and thus gain more time so that the first and all matches of the season in the Champions League are at the Camp Nou.
An unprecedented request
A few weeks ago, in mid-July, the Blaugrana club sent a request to UEFA in this regard and, despite accepting the request, from the very beginning UEFA warned Barça's managers that it was not in favor of placing these conditions on the Champions League and that, historically, it had never done so.
After a few weeks, Barça consider this option lost and will have to wait until the day of the Champions League draw, Thursday 28 August, to find out if the calendar draw favors Barça's plans and Hansi Flick's team begins the Champions League as a visitor between Tuesday 16 and Thursday 18 September. In this case, the European debut at the Camp Nou would be on Tuesday 30 September or Wednesday 1 October.
